I haven’t visited Frankenmuth in about 5 years and while most Michiganders are familiar with the quaint historic Bavarian town, my boyfriend had never visited so we had a random mini road trip on Sunday to briefly enjoy the sights! I wish I took more pictures now, but there were actually some great designs on the Bavarian styled buildings and also tons of murals. The murals were mostly historic and ornate and not so much the type that I paint, but these shutters and doors were right up my alley! A lot of these buildings are actually historic from the late 1800’s… so I found it pretty interesting that my dumb ass thought I was doing something cool new and different and actually I’m just full of myself because people from all over the world have been doing this for like.. forever! But that’s ok–I’m definitely adding a new face to exterior building decorations 😀
I would have liked to spend more time there to explore the history a bit more but we didn’t have much time and had to partake in the essentials… beer at the Frankenmuth Brewery and chocalate at Zak & Mac’s Chocolate Haus. We had a killer pretzel at the brewery with super spicy brown stone ground mustard! The Hot Rocket Jalapeño Blonde Ale was an amazing pairing with that pretzel and I’m craving more today! If you haven’t tried a spicy beer you should definitely try this one with some good bar food or Mexican food!
I’m hoping to plan another mini trip back when it’s not so hot and though I’ve been there multiple times I don’t think I’ve gone to the Frankenmuth Historical Museum which I’d be interested in checking out! I think there are a lot of little antique stores and cool architecture I could spend more time investigating as well… luckily it’s only an hour away from East Lansing!
