Work In Progress 2018 – Still Fly
I am working on my largest painting to date – 20″ x 30″! Something dark, bold, silly, and ripe with symbolism that describes a place where I’m at in life right now. My goal is to finish this piece and have it accepted into Art Prize 2018! I have roughly two months–with the amount of detail and paper to cover with this piece it will definitely take all the extra time I have.
What is Art Prize?.. you may be wondering..
Art Prize is seriously THE COOLEST art competition that I know of. Every year in Grand Rapids, Michigan there is a 19 day long art competition in Downtown Grand Rapids. All the local shops, restaurants, breweries, museums, and public places host the artwork ranging from 2d art, 3d art, time based art, and installations! Artists from all over the world submit art and so many prizes are given out for various categories and based on different juries. Its a HUGE opportunity for any artist to be involved in… and after I attended for the first time last year I was kicking myself for not entering sooner! To me, it’s more about visibility since I most likely will not walk away with a prize... but it’s TOTALLY worth it!
The bonus is that I need to spend more time in Grand Rapids to fill up my Beer City Brewsader Passport. …because I REALLY need a free T-shirt to prove that I’m a craft beer snob. Grand Rapids is BEER CITY USA! There are so many top notch craft breweries there including two of my favorites: Founders Brewing and Brewery Vivant!
Anyways, enough rambling… I’ll update my progress on this painting later with more explanation of the symbolism. I have a featured artist blog to write now!
